There should be a Spirit Counter for every army. It represents the courage, the team spirit and the effectiveness of every army, and the higher it is, the better your army fights. Here's how it works:
Start with 100 Spirit. When you defeat an army in battle, Spirit goes up by 10. If you lose in battle, Spirit goes down by 10. (Note: Victory or defeat is determined by comparing the losses of both sides) If you have an Ally, Spirit goes up by 15, and goes back down by 15 if the Alliance is canceled. If you have a Peace Treaty with someone, Spirit goes up by 5, and goes back down by 5 if the Treaty is canceled. Having a second base gives 10 more Spirit, and a third base gives 20. Every time you trade, Spirit goes up by 2. If your spirit is under 150, it goes up by 1 every day. For Hocotatians, if a General is commanding an army in battle, Spirit goes up by 20 for this battle. If a Captain is in control, it goes up by 10 for this battle. If there is nobody in control, Spirit goes down by 40 for this battle.
Now, the uses of Spirit. If your army had A Spirit, while enemy had B, your troops would have (A/B) of the enemies' troops' effectiveness in battle.

I don't like it. It adds nothing to the game. It will also decrease attack frequenecy.

Wins and losses aren't as simple as who has the most/least casualties. Sometimes there's a point behind an attack. For example, if my army attacks your army, my army might end up with more casualties if you have a great defense plan. But if the purpose of the attack was to steal you're petals, then I would say that's a victory on my side.

I think although it may add strategic value, I don't want this game to be any more complicated as it already is.

Yeah, gonna have to go with Joe on this one. Besides, Wildlife troops fight on instinct, and Hocotatian Pikmin are fairly mindless. I doubt either of them would be effected by morale.
