Because, I have... Forfeit several primitave joys, for what i need in many projects. I am an old man, in a teenagers body. I will miss the preteen days for the rest of my life. Also, I am not in a trick-or-treating area.

OK, ignor the fact that this post ignors you, but sorry kaka, and i havent gone trick or treating in 4 years. Why the heck not? Is there something you do not enjoy about getting free candy? Heck, I haven't gone in about the same time. Maybe a year or two more, in fact. I refuse to celebrate Death Day or Satan Day or any other possible interpretation of it, especially not by dressing up in a humiliating juvenile costume and begging for candy like a kindergartner. I can't believe people in their high teens still do it. I celebrate things like Christmas and Easter--Celebrations of life--But Halloween to me is rather abysmal.

Guess who never studied Halloween. A it has no relation to satan or the devil. In fact, originally I'm pretty sure it's just the opposite.

Hardcore Christians call it that because that's what some kids dress up as. And Dumple, Day of the Dead is in Mexico. They don't ToT, but once a year they lay out this shrine of food to the dead, and use to scents to "lure" spirits of their loved, deceased ones to their house.

GO-GO-GADGET: PAYING ATTENTION IN RELIGION CLASS YESTERDAY!
Hallowe'en is a holiday "derived" from the Celtic's "Sammhain" (I'm pretty sure that's how you spell it). This is the day the Celtics (and I'm pretty sure the Druids) said was the day between fall and winter, and, as such, the bond between the living and the dead was at its weakest point. Not wanting to be, uh, haunted (I guess, we didn't really talk about what the dead would do), they all put on masks to scare away (I don't understand how the dead would get scared, but whatever).
Flash-forward to the Great Potato Famine. This is the year all the Irish people immigrated to America because they were pretty much starving. When they came to America (and Canada), they brought along their traditions. One such tradition was "Sammhain". It must've caught on with the rest of Americans and is now a widely-spread holiday, celebrated by all cultures.
Another cool thing we learned is that the name Hallowe'en (or, more correctly, Hallowmass) means "The Eve of Hallows", or "The Eve of Saints". This is because All Saints Day is celebrated on November 1st in the Catholic faith.
That's Hallowe'en. Take it as you will. I myself haven't gone out since grade school, but to each his own.

The fact that it used to be All Hallows Eve yet now has turned into this is a major reason I don't. It has a painfully obvious connection, and I don't know where you live, but a lot of trash happens on Halloween and it is indeed a celebration of death. It's also rather generic, in another sense, in that so many people celebrate it but to just about everyone in the United States, especially among those that I know, it has no real significance. Holiday used to be Holy Day, and Halloween has nearly nothing to do with it. That also has to do with interpretation, and forcing your opinion on me is pretty pointless. As for the candy question, most candies have long forsaken me since I found out I was gluten and casein intolerant. waterdumple.proboards74.com/index.cgi?board=suggestions&action=display&thread=1970&page=1#31275Anyhow, I made this topic to show why I agree with this, as I figured it'd wind up with these results before long. This is why we don't celebrate holidays here.

They kind of go ToT on the day of the dead, but not like we do. they still get candy, but in a graveyard. and both the Celtic celebration and Day of the dead celebrate the passing of loved ones. Why else would i have gotten the mortuary and mousolium written?
Plus, this shows my not-wanting to have holidays celebrated, because it causes disruption.

I mean, who doesn't like candy?" not a "WHY THE HELL DON'T YOU CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN?!"
